“My first time voting was very special. I had been following politics for years but had not yet been allowed to vote, so when it was finally possible it felt like a special moment. I went to the polling station with great enthusiasm, knew exactly who I wanted to vote for and even took a selfie to capture this important moment. If you live here, it’s important to participate and make your voice heard, because politics is about us and our daily lives. Do you really want to participate? Then understand how the system works and get real about voting. There are many parties and choices, so look carefully, think about what you think is important and choose a party and a person to go with that.”
Subhi Almatroud is a Syrian Amsterdam native and Social Work student committed to his community. As a participant coordinator at BOOST, he supports various projects and helps newcomers to actively participate in society.
